Life update

Tomorrow, Jan 8, begins a new semester at school. I can't say that I'm looking forward to it. I'm kind of burnt out from school after 18 1/2 years.

Wednesday I go for an MRI on my back. I'm not sure what I did to it. I've had minor pain for a few months off and on, but nothing too bad that a couple of Advil wouldn't fix. However, the Thursday before last (the one between Christmas & New Years), my back started causing excruciating pain. The only way that I made it through last week was on an abundance of pain medication. Since I've had back pain like this before, I can pretty much guess that I have either a herniated or bulged disc.

So far, 2007 hasn't been all that great. I can only hope it gets better with time.

I've lost my peanut butter

Who actually packages peanut butter in glass jars anymore? I went shopping today at Shoprite and when I got home and was taking bags out of my car, the jar of peanut butter fell out and and broke on the ground. Obviously (from above) it was in a glass jar.

Seriously, who thought peanut butter in glass jars was even available anymore? Especially from a large grocery chain.

2006 in a Survey

Since 2006 is over, what better way to relive the highs & lows than by taking another survey!?!

1. What did you do in 2006 that you’d never done before?
Had not a single sip of alcohol at National Convention, studied for law school exams (never did it my first year, but did in Fall 2006 semester), went into surgery with a hangover, and saved someone's life.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't think I made any resolutions last year, and haven't made any for this year--the whole idea of resolutions is that they end up getting broken--no need for that negativity.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My sister gave birth to her 3rd child (girl named Onya) in early December

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not that I can remember

5. What countries did you visit?
Didn't leave the US

6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
More self discipline (sorry Finn--this was too good to not include). More focus, especially with regards to school. More motivation.

7. What dates from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 29--reelected to Council
December 2--Given a Chapter Service Key from Alpha Lambda

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Tie between finishing a year of law school (both semesters on Dean's list) and being re-elected to National Council. Also have to include successful completion of the 3rd year of Project DUFF.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I don't like to think anything I did or accomplished was a failure--I've learned from any mistakes I've made and don't consider them to be failures

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yep--injured my knee & had to have surgery in June. Also did something to my back in the end of the year which I'm still trying to fix.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Desktop computer

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Nobody is coming immediately to mind...

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Philadelphia residents--do we really need to kill more than one person per day? Seriously, how is this good for the city or human society?

14. Where did most of your money go?
Food and alcohol I'd guess

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The end of my first year of law school! Plus the fact that I was on the Dean's list and earned a merit based scholarship.

16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
Nothing is coming to mind...and I don't want to spend a long time thinking of a creative answer

17. Compared to this time last year, are you: a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer?
Happier, heavier, poorer.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Spend more time on being productive and getting work done

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Procrastinating

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Went home to my parents--Christmas Eve was spent at my grandmothers with my family (including sister, nieces & nephew, aunt, cousin & his family). Christmas was spent at my house eating spaghetti (who said you need turkey or ham for the holidays?) and watching the Eagles beat the Cowboys.

21. Did you fall in love in 2006?
No

22. How many one-night stands?
None.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Entourage

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No--hate is a strong word that I don't really use. There are a small handful of people who I've broken off contact with, but I don't hate them.

25. What was the best book you read?
Hmm, tough one - can't think of a specific title.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Only really listened to the radio--didn't download much music or listen to specific songs

27. What did you want and get?
Re-election as Vice President of Chapter Development

28. What did you want and not get?
To win the lottery and get back in shape

29. What were your favorite films of this year?
The Departed

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 23 and can't remember what I did. Couldn't have been too exciting:)

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Winning the lottery. Stay in touch with good friends who's life has moved on past me (way too many)

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Day job was khakis & dress shirt, while work was usually shorts and work shirt. Outside of work was shorts and t-shirt.

33. What kept you sane?
I'm not sure I would consider myself to be sane...anyone who knows me might agree with that assessment.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
None that I can think of--most public figures are idiots. Well, I guess I'd say one of the celebrities who are using their fame and money to make a difference in the lives of others--though I can't think of a specific person at this time.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
The negative campaigning. Isn't there enough negativity and problems in the world without the smear campaigns? I mean, c'mon, 406 people were killed in Philly during 2006. Over 3000 soldiers have been killed in Iraq. And yet we get to hear smear campaigns, each candidate putting the other candidates down? We, as a society, need the positive news. We need the positive campaigns--instead of commercials telling how bad your opponent is, have commercials saying why you're a good person for the job, and hell, even why your opponent is a good person to be your opponent.

36. Who did you miss?
A lot of people. First & foremost would be my father who is always on my mind. You know the cliché, "not a day goes by..." I also miss all the great friends that I've made who I've failed to keep in contact with. Some of these friends live right here in Philly, some live within a short drive, and some live across the country.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
I've met a lot of great people, both within Phi Sigma Pi and beyond. I'm glad that I've met each & every one of them because they all have some meaning in my life.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006.
Life is what you make it--no one else can tell you how to live.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Not good at this type of thing, so I have nothing.
