Thermometer broken? Use your clock.
As I was eating breakfast this morning while watching The Today Show. During the show, after Al Roker does weather, they cut to the local NBC stations to get the local weather. The local anchor made some comment about the cold weather, which was the lead-in to the actual weather report. His response was "It sure feels like it's 7am out there."
It was 8am. One hour difference. Sixty minutes difference. When have you ever heard of a huge temperature difference within the matter of an hour. Sure, I'm sure it has occurred before, but not in the course of a normal day. Not so that you can make a comment like did. It might have made more sense for a weatherman on a noon-time broadcast to say how it feels like 2am out there. This is a usually a semi significant change in weather. One is midday when the sun is out at its fullest and one is the middle of the night. However, saying that the temperature feels like an hour earlier is just plain stupid.
Though, now that I think about it, it does sort of feel like it's 2:57pm outside...

Here's your sign.
Where is Jeff Foxworthy when you need him? Anybody remember his signature comedy act about making stupid people wear signs, such as:
"We're in the process of remodeling our house; we've been doing it for a while now. And we have the painters in, putting sheets up around the furniture, you know? And we have a piano, just a regular, up against the wall piano. One of the painters said to me, "Is that y'all's piano?" I said, "Nah, that's our coffee table, it just has buckteeth!" Here's your sign!"
Well, the guy in the parking garage elevator this morning definitely deserves a sign. The parking garage has 4 levels: 1, 3, 4, R (for roof). These are the buttons on the elevator. It's not rocket science.
Now, I got on the elevator on the roof with another guy. The elevator stops at the 4th floor and the people there decide to get the next elevator down (because these elevators are extremely small). Next, we stop on the 3rd floor where again the people waiting pass on joining us. Now, if you've been following, you'd know there is only one more stop left. So we get to the first floor, and the guy just stands there blocking the door. Since he doesn't move, people start getting on to go up to their cars. So I now have to push through two extra people to get out of the door. Now, this might not sound bad, but this elevator was originally designed to be used only for valets getting cars, not really as a passenger elevator, and thus they are SMALL. Small as in fit two, maybe three people without touching each other.
How hard is it to know you're on the bottom floor when you've stopped at every floor on the way down?
Check out this article about NFL quarterback Tom Brady and the possibility that he might have impregnated a second woman within the past 6 months. The new woman is his current girlfriend Gisele Bundchen. Now, the reason I'm posting this story is because of what the article says. It attempts to be quirky and add some humor when it says "It seems there's no defense that can stop Tom Brady--on or off the field." Then to close the article, following a quote by the current girlfriend about wanting children at some point, but saying she has plenty of time (i.e. she's in no rush), the article says "That apparently was before Bundchen ran into Brady's hurry-up offense." HA. HA. HA. This just strikes me at a lame attempt at humor and it doesn't really work. It's like a bad joke; you groan in disbelief that it was said instead of laughing.
In other news, I found the cartoon below and found it to be interesting. I'm sure you could put pretty much any current events story into one of the top pictures and the cartoon would still work. It's really sad how much media time has been spent on Anna Nicole Smith and who the father of her baby is.
And for the record, I think the kid is mine...

Churches Get Creative
As I was driving today in a Philly suburb, I saw a sign that made me stop and think. The sign was in front of a church and was a sign with moveable letters. The sign said:
"Seven days without praying makes one weak"
This sign got me thinking (no, not about actual religion). While there are not many churches in Philadelphia that have signs outside, many of the churches near where I grew up did. The churches always had a witty saying up that encouraged people to attend church. I've always found these signs to be very quirky and creative. They usually are a play on words and I would argue they rival something an advertising company could come up with.
I cannot think of any more sayings off the top of my head, but if I see more, I'll be sure to post them.
